How to choose artificial grass for your garden
Choose artificial grass by looking at samples, product specifications and the garden’s real use, not just the colour in a brochure.

Look at samples outdoors
Artificial grass can look different in shade, direct sun and against the paving or planting in your garden. Request a sample of the exact product being quoted and view it outside. Pile direction and light reflection can change its appearance.
Understand the product details
Compare pile height, density, yarn type, backing and stated drainage performance. Ask for the manufacturer's product sheet and warranty conditions. A longer pile is not automatically better; the choice should suit the look and use you want.
Plan for pets and children
If children or pets will use the lawn, check the product's cleaning advice and any relevant product testing. Discuss comfort, drainage and routine upkeep. Artificial grass is not automatically a certified play safety surface, so ask for evidence for any safety claim.
Ask about installation, not only the roll
The installer should explain excavation, sub-base, bedding layer, joins and edging. Clarify how water will drain and how the surface will be secured. These details are as important as the product label.
Keep maintenance realistic
Artificial grass still needs leaves and debris removed. Depending on use, it may need brushing or washing in line with the manufacturer's advice. Ask how to keep the surface in good condition and which cleaning products to avoid.
Compare the full specification in writing. That makes it easier to judge whether the grass and the installation method suit your garden.
